Articles that Engage

When my brother and I were growing up we had the great fortune of having our Abuelita (grandma) nearby. She would come over, give mom a break, and sometimes we would go to her house as well to learn some lesson’s on doing chores (ask Joe about raking leaves…seriously when you join us on our podcast somebody please ask him :)).

Every day she gets up and reads the newspaper, even to this day. Of course not all the news is good or even useful but she pours through the paper. As we grew older one of the neat items that she would do is cut out articles from the newspaper for us to read. Sometimes she would save the articles until she came over and other times she would mail them to us to insure we were able to gain insights on something she found helpful. Really she was like Google for us, I mean she poured through an entire paper and sometimes not a single article made the cut!

Those articles were great; I would read them because they came from her. After all I knew she took the time to read a variety of material and this is the one that made the cut, definitely worth my couple of minutes.

Now sharing articles and information is even easier, but are you sharing it? Are you taking the time to “cut” a few articles and send them over to those in your network? Have you posted a link to a helpful article on your personal profile on Facebook or even your fan page?

Each day I read during lunch. I have a series of websites that I research, digest, and sometimes even make a comment on (I’m a bit spartan on my comment making but if it’s worthy of interaction I lob a comment). Through this reading I often share articles via email, google+ and sometimes our fan page. At times, I find articles to share just with a few people that I know and fire off an email to them, letting them know I thought it might be of some value.

Facebook gives you a powerful platform to pique interest. From laser targeted ads, interest piquing updates, to Fan Pages that convert a “like” into a lead there is much you can do to grow your business.

Even with all of the methods available, sometimes your audience just wants to know you are thinking about them. They just want to know that as you were going through your day, you found something that you thought would help.

As you work on the different elements of your marketing, consider sharing something with your Fans, Friends, or even a Family Member. It doesn’t have to be through Facebook, just consider “clipping an article” to share and watch what happens.
